当你老了，华发已衰，充满睡意，
                                                           倦蹲炉边之时，请翻阅这本诗篇，
                                                           细细品读，回思昔日的双眸
                                                           泛着柔美的神色与青幽的晕影；

                                                           曾多少人真情或假意，
                                                           爱过你的美丽、欢悦，和迷人的青春，
                                                           唯有一人爱你那朝圣者的心灵，
                                                           爱你哀戚的脸上岁月的磨痕； 

                                                           当你蹒跚在灼热的炉栅边，
                                                           悄然回首，诉说着淡淡地忧伤；
                                                           逝去的爱，已远落千山，
                                                           在繁星密布之间葬其赧颜。

      When you are old and grey and full of sleep,
      And nodding by the fire, take down this book,
      And slowly read, and dream of the soft look
      Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;

      How many loved your moments of glad grace,
      And loved your beauty with love false or true,
      But one man loved the pilgrim Soul in you,
      And loved the sorrows of your changing face;

      And bending down beside the glowing bars,
      Murmur, a little sadly, how Love fled
      And paced upon the mountains overhead
      And hid his face amid a crowd of stars.

      翻开英文杂志《Life Is Beautiful》，无意间看到了爱尔兰著名诗人威廉-巴特勒-叶芝（William Butler Yeats）先生的一首优美的散文诗——《When you are old》，经过反复琢磨，同时借鉴前辈们的感悟，于是闲暇之余对这首诗做了翻译。
